25 years ago, on a clear September morning, an otherwise ordinary day became one of history's darkest. Nearly 3000 people, amongst them lost their lives, were killed, in the worst terrorist attack in American history. This dark moment also brought torth some of our best nature. Firefighters were climbing the stairs to rescue those in burning buildings. Rescue workers were working for weeks to bring closure. In Canada, our government, without hesitation, welcomed 224 planes to 17 of our airports. In Gander, the population almost doubled, with strangers who were given a bed, a hot meal, and a phone call home. A few years ago, I visited Gander and spent time with Beaulan Cooper, who is one of the heroes. She wouldn't describe herself as a hero and she had cards from a school trip kids who had visited. And one of them said: your kindness makes me want to use your kindness. And that's how generousity spreads. The response to darkness is to reach out. It's the best way to respond to any situation. To help a stranger, a neighbour, or a community in need
