Introducing the New Shanghai Consul General Christian Marchant
Christian Marchant is the new Consul General at the United States Consulate General in Shanghai. He is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service of the U.S. Department of State with the rank of Minister Counselor.
Mr. Marchant comes to Shanghai with a wealth of experience in East Asia. He most recently served as Minister Counselor for Political Affairs at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. Prior to that, Christian was the Political Chief at the American Institute in Taiwan and served in Washington, DC in the office of the Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs and the Office of Chinese and Mongolian Affairs. His other overseas tours include Oslo, Norway; Hanoi, Vietnam; Prague, Czech Republic; and Beijing, China.
Prior to joining the Foreign Service, Christian worked on Capitol Hill and managed political campaigns. He is a graduate of Brigham Young University. Christian and his wife Jennie have three children. He speaks Chinese, Vietnamese, Czech, and Slovak.
